Two Special Great Tribulation Witnesses of God

Elijah as One of the 2 Witnesses

The most famous verse supporting Elijah as one of the two witnesses that will prepare people for the second coming of the Messiah(Christ) - the Lord Jesus is found in Malachi 4 (the last book of the Christian Old Testament). In this passage Elijah is described as a prophet of God and that one of his main missions God will assign him is to restore good family relations between parents and children (to try to bridge the generation gap that is now quite wide). The context both in the beginning verses of the chapter and that Elijah is said to come before the great and dreadful day of the LORD clearly place Elijah's future mission just before the Lord Jesus Christ's coming again in power and great glory to set up His and God the Father's Kingdom. This means that Elijah's future mission will be in the Great Tribulation or 70th week of Daniel when God will again work through Israel and not the Church on Earth. The reference to Elijah in Malachi 4 is as follows:

Reference of Elijah as one of the 2 Special Witnesses of God in the Tribulation According to Malachi 4

Behold, I will send you Elijah the prophet before the coming of the great and dreadful day of the LORD: And he shall turn the heart of the fathers to the children, and the heart of the children to the fathers, lest I come and smite the earth with a curse. Malachi 4:5-6

Prayer and Time Associated with Elijah's Previous Ministry Described with Similiarites to Great Tribulation

In James 5, Elijah's ministry of effective prayer, especially in regard to stopping or restoring rain, is mentioned. He is given as an example of God blessing persistant prayer for Christians in this age although his actions were as part of Israel and God using them in the Old Testament period when God worked with Israel under the Law of Moses. The historical account of Elijah praying to stop the rain and then praying again to let the rain resume is in 1 Kings 17:1-18:1 although the scripture there only says God restored the rain through Elijah's prayers in the third year. What is more precise and more relevant for people now on Earth is that God said in James 5 that he answered Elijah's prayers to stop the rain for exactly 3 years and 6 months. This is also the period of time God will use Elijah to stop the rain on Earth and have his ministry for the whole first half of the 70th week of Daniel or Great Tribulation according the Revelation 11. The Lord Jesus Christ(Messiah) also mentioned in the Gospel of Luke 4:25-26 that Elijah shut up the rain from Heaven in God's answer to his prayer for exactly three years and six months. The scripture about Elijah through prayer to God shutting up rain from Heaven for three years and six months is found in James 5 and Luke 4 are as follow:

God Shutting Up Rain for 3 Years and 6 Months in Answer to Elijah's Prayers in James 5

Confess your faults one to another, and pray one for another, that ye may be healed. The effectual fervent prayer of a righteous man availeth much. Elias(Elijah) was a man subject to like passions as we are, and he prayed earnestly that it might not rain: and it rained not on the earth by the space of three years and six months. And he prayed again, and the heaven gave rain, and the earth brought forth her fruit. James 5:16-18

Elijah Shut up Heaven in Prayer for 3 Years 6 Months According to the Lord Jesus Christ in the Gospel of Luke 4

But I tell you of a truth, many widows were in Israel in the days of Elias(Elijah), when the heaven was shut up three years and six months, when great famine was throughout the land; But unto none of them was Elias sent, save(except) unto Sarepta, a city of Sidon, unto a woman that was a widow. Gospel of Luke 4:25-26

Moses as One of the Witnesses

Background of Moses as One of the Two Tribulation Witnesses According to Malachi 4

In Malachi 4 Moses is mentioned. This is significant because this whole chapter is about the coming of the Lord Jesus the Messiah(Christ) or the events and personalities immediately before that event and in preparation for it. This likely signifies that Moses will reappear on Earth as a witness for God just before the second coming of the Lord Jesus the Messiah(Christ). This is further supported by the inclusion of Elijah as a man of God who will appear as a witness of God in the days of trial(tribulation) just before Jesus' second coming. This mention of Moses with Elijah as God's witnesses on Earth just before the Messiah's second coming is strong evidence that Moses is the other of the two witnesses mentioned in Revelation 11 with Elijah. In this chapter Moses is also called God's servant and the one through whom God brought His law. It is implied that God will use Moses to urge Israel and the nations to come back to God and His commandments and law from lawlessness or other religions, philosophies or worldviews. This will also be in preparation for God's Millenial Kingdom or Messianic Kingdom when He will rule over all the Earth from Jerusalem with Israel then the head of the nations. The Lord Jesus the Messiah will be God's ruler over the Earth then as well as partly through King David. Believers from this Church Age, the Tribulation and Old Testament period will also share in ruling with God and Jesus in the Messianic Kingdom. The scripture in Malachi 4 mentioning Moses as God's witness or servant immediately before Jesus the Messiah's coming again to Earth is as follows:

Moses One of Two Special Witnesses for God in the Great Tribulation According to Malachi 4

Remember ye the law of Moses my servant, which I commanded unto him in Horeb(Sinai) for all Israel, with the statutes and judgments. Malachi 4:4

God Causing Plagues on Egypt through Moses Indication Moses could be One of 2 Tribulation Witnesses

In Exodus God uses Moses to bring plagues on Egypt and its ruler Pharoah to persuade them to let the Jews go to their promised land in Canaan or Israel and to let them be freed from the bondage or slavery under the Egyptians. The plagues were also a judgment of God against Egypt's false gods. This Pharoah is also a symbol of Satan the devil the god and prince of this world and Egypt is a symbol of this world system. One of the plagues God brings on Egypt, their land, people and gods especially the River Nile Egyptian god is the turning of water to blood in Exodus 7:14-25. All plagues are mentioned in Exodus 7-12. In Revelation 11 God mentions in the Bible that the two witnesses (two Olive trees) will bring different plagues specifically turning water to blood over the Earth in the first half of the 70th week of Daniel or the Great Tribulation. This is another good indication, with these similiar plagues, that God will choose Moses as the other of the two witnesses or two Olive trees besides Elijah. Certainly Moses would have these qualifications better than Enoch the most mentioned other possible candidate for the two witnesses besides Elijah. The reader can read as much of Exodus 7-12 and compare it with Revelation 11 as he or she wants but I will just write below the account in Exodus 7 of God using Moses to turn the water to blood to give some idea and because this is specifically mentioned in Revelation 11:

God Using Moses to Turn Water to Blood from Exodus 7

And the LORD said unto Moses, Pharoah's heart is hardened, he refuseth to let the people go. Get thee unto Pharoah in the morning; lo, he goeth out unto the water, and thou shalt stand by the river's brink against(until) he come; and the rod which was turned to a serpent shalt thou take in thine hand. And thou shalt say unto him, The LORD God of the Hebrews hath sent me unto thee, saying, Let my people go, that they may serve me in the wilderness: and, behold, hitherto thou wouldest not hear. Thus saith the LORD, In this thou shalt know that I am the LORD: behold, I will smite with the rod that is in mine hand upon the waters which are in the river, and they shall be turned into blood. And the fish that is in the river shall die, and the river shall stink; and the Egyptians shall loathe to drink of the water of the river. And the LORD spake unto Moses, Say unto Aaron, Take thy rod, and stretch out thine hand upon the waters of Egypt, upon their streams, upon their rivers, and upon their ponds, and upon all their pools of water, that they may become blood; and that there may be blood throughout all the land of Egypt, both in vessels of wood, and in vessels of stone. And Moses and Aaron did so, as the LORD commanded; and he lifted up the rod, and smote the waters that were in the river, in the sight of Pharoah, and in the sight of his servants; and all the waters that were in the river were turned to blood. And the fish that was in the river died; and the river stank, and the Egyptians could not drink of the water of the river; and there was blood throughout all the land of Egypt. And the magicians of Egypt did so with their enchantments: and Pharoah's heart was hardened, neither did he hearken unto them; as the LORD had said. And Pharoah turned and went into his house, neither did he set his heart to this also. And all the Egyptians digged round about the river for water to drink; for they could not drink of the water of the river. Exodus 7:14-24

Appearance of Moses and Elijah with Jesus Misinterpreted by Jesus' Disciples

In Mark 9, what is commonly called Jesus Christ's appearance on the Mount of Transfiguration(Possibly Mount Hermon), the Lord Jesus Christ took 3 or his disciples to a very high mountain. At that mountain Moses and Elijah miraculously appeared talking with Jesus. Then Peter with the other disciples thinking that God's Messianic Kingdom was about to start on Earth offered to make three tabernacles for Jesus, Elijah and Moses. Peter and the other disciples would know that the Jewish Feast of Tabernacles will be kept by Israel and the nations in the Messianic age from Old Testament scriptures such as Ezekiel 45:25 and Zechariah 14.

Main Purpose of Elijah and Moses Appearing with Jesus on Mount of Transfiguration

The LORD or God the Father, however directed Peter and the other disciples to focus on Jesus His Messiah and not so much on Elijah and Moses. This was especially because God was about to accomplish His central work of salvation through His Son and Messiah Jesus through His death on the cross for our sins and His resurrection from the dead. In the account of Jesus and the others on the Mount of Transfiguration in the Gospel of Luke 9:30-31 the Bible says what Moses and Elijah were talking with Jesus about on the Mount of Transfiguration. It was about His decease(death) (on the cross) in Jerusalem. The Lord Jesus also said in the Gospel of Mark 9 that Elijah would come first (before the Messiah and His Kingdom) and restore all things. Jesus also said Elijah would also speak of the Messiah's or the Son of Man's(Jesus') suffering many things and be set at nought(nothing). This would refer to the Jewish authorities disdain, dismissing and persecuting to death their Messiah - the Son of Man Jesus of Nazareth.

Elijah and Timing of God's Messianic Kingdom on Earth

When Jesus was saying that Elijah had come already he was referring to John the Baptist. John the Baptist would likely have been the appearance of Elijah before God set up His Messianic Kingdom if Israel including her religious and national authorities had embraced or received Jesus as their Messiah. This would not have been a problem for the Church or salvation of Gentiles or people of the nations as none of the New Testament was written then and there is nothing definite about the Church in the Old Testament. The Old Testament did say Gentiles or people of the nations would be saved in the last days in God's Kingdom but this could have been on a separate basis from Israel as in the Old Testament and that will still take place in the yet future Tribulation or 70th week of Daniel or Millenial Kingdom. God could still have managed the death of the Messiah with Israel receiving him more widely if Israel had responded this way. This is what Jesus and John the Baptist in the spirit of Elijah were offering at first but had to postpone to what is now the near future with the Church Age now almost complete. The account of the Lord Jesus the Messiah with his 3 disciples and Moses and Elijah in the Gospel of Mark 9 and the partial account in the Gospel of Luke 9 are as follows:

Account of the Lord Jesus on the Mount of Transfiguration with Moses and Elijah According to Mark 9

And he(Jesus) said unto them, Verily(truly) I say unto you, That there be some of them that stand here, which shall not taste of death, till they have seen the kingdom of God come with power. And after six days Jesus taketh with him Peter, and James, and John, and leadeth them up into an high mountain apart by themselves: and he was transfigured before them. And his raiment(clothing) became shining, exceeding white as snow; so as no fuller(laundryperson) on earth can white them. And there appeared unto them Elias(Elijah) with Moses: and they were talking with Jesus. And Peter answered and said to Jesus, Master, it is good for us to be here: and let us make three tabernacles; one for thee(you), and one for Moses, and one for Elias (Elijah). For he wist(knew) not what to say; for they were sore (very) afraid. And there was a cloud that overshadowed them: and a voice came out of the cloud, saying, This is my beloved Son: hear him. And suddenly, when they had looked round about, they saw no man any more, save(except) Jesus only with themselves. And as they came down from the mountain, he charged them that they should tell no man what things they had seen, till the Son of man were risen from the dead. And they kept that saying with themselves, questioning one with another what the rising from the dead should mean. And they asked him, saying, Why say the scribes that Elias(Elijah) must first come? And he answered and told them, Elias verily(truly) cometh first, and restoreth all things; and how it is written of the Son of Man, that he must suffer many things, and be set at nought. But I say unto you, That Elias(Elijah) is indeed come, and they have done unto him whatsoever they listed(wanted) as it is written of him. Gospel of Mark 9:1-13

Account of the Lord Jesus on the Mount of Transfiguration with Moses and Elijah According to Luke 9

And, behold, there talked with him(Jesus) two men, which were Moses and Elias(Elijah): Who appeared in glory, and spake of his(Jesus) decease (death) which he should accomplish at Jerusalem. Gospel of Luke 9:30-31 Also see Gospel of Luke 9:26-36, Gospel of Matthew 16:28- 17:13, 2 Peter 1:16-21.

Background of Term Two Olive Trees in Zechariah 4

The term for the two witnesses, likely Moses and Elijah, of God in the 70th week of Daniel or Great Tribulaton after the Church is raptured or caught up to Heaven and before the Lord Jesus the Messiah comes to set up His Kingdom over the Earth is the two Olive trees. The background for this term is given mostly in Zechariah 4. One of the symbols for religious or spiritual Israel is the Olive Tree as also in the Mount of Olives. The choice of Olive Trees to describe the two witnesses in Zechariah 4 and Revelation 11 also strongly suggests or even requires they both be Jewish. For this Elijah and Moses would qualify but Enoch would not as he was born, lived and had his ministry in Genesis 5 before Abraham was born and there started to be a distinction between Israel as God's chosen earthly people and the other nations.

Association of Two Olive Trees with Candlesticks and Annointing Oil

In Zechariah 4 the Two Olive Trees are said to get their annointing oil from the seven candlesticks. Annointing oil speaks of the Holy Spirit and the candlesticks speak of witness for God. These 7 candlesticks are not to be confused with the seven candlesticks of Revelation 2-3 which refer to the Church in this present age. The seven candlesticks refer to God's witness through the two witnesses or olive trees in the first half of the 70th week of Daniel or the Great Tribulation which will be 3 and a half years. The number 7 throughout the Bible means Divine perfection starting with God creating the heavens and earth and everthing in them in 7 days. The candlestick being made of gold means worship in this case that the witness of the two Olive Trees will be a life or worship or dedication to God. This is certainly described to be the case for Moses and Elijah in Revelation 11.

Historical Link of Last Days Olive Trees Moses and Elijah to Earlier Olive Trees and Temple of God from Zechariah 4

Some Bible commentator say that Zerubbabel and Haggai were the near term and immediate application of the two Olive trees. Zerubbabel was of the Israeli kingly line or a ruler which would be similiar to Moses and Haggai was a prophet like Elijah. Moses and Elijah would still be the ultimate or last days fulfillment of this scripture. Finally in this passage the Two Olive trees including historically or in the near term Zerubbabel are spoken of as preparing and restarting or upholding the Jewish Temple and worship of God the LORD at it. Although there is no specific phrase linking them in Revelation 11, both the Two Olive Trees, Moses and Elijah, and the Tribulation Temple of God which will be built right after the rapture in Jerusalem on the Temple Mount are in the same chapter in Revelation. Also they are described in the same period the first half or forty two months or three years and six months of the tribulation or 70th week of Daniel. The background description of the Two Olive Trees in Zechariah 4 is as follows:

Prophecy About Two Olive Trees in Zechariah 4

And the angel that talked with me came again, and waken me, as a man that is wakened out of his sleep. And said unto me, What seest thou? And I said, I have looked, and behold a candlestick all of gold, with a bowl upon the top of it, and his seven lamps thereon, and seven pipes to the seven lamps, which are upon the top thereof: And two olive trees by it, one upon the right side of the bowl, and the other upon the left side thereof. So I answered and spake unto the angel that talked with me, saying, What are these, my lord? Then the angel that talked with me answered and said unto me, Knowest thou not what these be? And I said. No, my lord. Then he answered and spake unto me, saying, This is the word of the LORD unto Zerubbabel, saying, Not by might, nor by power, but by my spirit, saith the LORD of hosts. ... Moreover the word of the LORD came unto me, saying, The hands of Zerubbabel have laid the foundation of this house; his hands shall also finish it; and thou shalt know that the LORD of hosts hath sent me unto you. For who hath despised the day of small things? for they shall rejoice, and shall see the plummet in the hand of Zerubbabel with those seven; they are the eyes of the LORD, which run to and fro through the whole earth. Then answered I, and said unto him, What are these two olive trees upon the right side of the candlestick and upon the left side thereof? And I answered again, and said unto him, What be these two olive branches which through the two golden pipes empty the golden oil out of themselves? And he answered me and said, Knowest thou not what these be? And I said, No, my lord. Then said he, These are the two annointed ones, that stand by the Lord of the whole earth. Zechariah 4:1-6,8-14.

Witness of The Two Olive Trees, Elijah and Moses, in the 70th Week of Daniel According to Revelation 11

I hope the abundant background scriptural material will help the read appreciate the importance and identity or the two olive trees as Moses and Elijah and their witness or ministry for God in the first half of the Great Tribulation or 70th week of Daniel. The term two candlesticks would refer to their bright and annointed by God witness to the world for Him. This will include a witness that Jesus of Nazareth was and is the promised Messiah of Israel and Saviour of the world and that He will then be coming back very soon to set up His Kingdom. Saying that the two witnesses are both prophets does not in any way disqualify Moses as a candidate as he is also called a prophet many times in scripture including in Deuteronomy 18:16-19 and 34:10. Both the period for the Jews worship in their new temple and the time for the witness of the two olive trees is given as 3 and a half years. 1260 days is exactly three and a half years as the Jewish months were all 30 days long. Although they may go to other parts of Israel or even to other nations and their ministry will certainly affect the whole world the focus of their ministry will be in Jerusalem as in verse 8 and implied in verse 2.

Reaction of People on Earth to Witness of The Two Olive Trees from Revelation 11

They will become very unpopular and resented with those who don't repent at their miracles and preaching the Gospel of the Kingdom of Jesus Christ. The beast or the anti-Christ will then kill them and the unsaved or those still of the world will rejoice at their death but then God will raise them from the dead and the world perhaps also be satellite TV etc. will see them taken to Heaven by God at the end of the 42 months first half of the Great Tribulation or 70th week of Daniel. However the earthquake God will cause at this time will put a godly fear into many in Jerusalem and probably in other parts of the world and they will put their trust in God and in His Messiah or Saviour Jesus the Son of God. The passage in Revelation 11 about the Two Olive Trees is as follows:

Prophecy of Ministry of the Two Olive Trees, Moses and Elijah, in the Great Tribulation from Revelation 11

And there was given me a reed like unto a rod: and the angel stood, saying, Rise, and measure the temple of God, and the altar, and them that worship therein. But the court which is without the temple leave out, and measure it not; for it is given unto the Gentiles: and the holy city shall they tread under foot forty and two months. And I will give power unto my two witnesses, and they shall prophesy a thousand two hundred and threescore days, clothed in sackcloth. These are the two olive trees, and the two candlesticks standing before the God of the earth. And if any man will hurt them, fire proceedeth out of their mouth, and devoureth their enemies: and if any man will hurt them, he must in this manner be killed. These have power to shut heaven, that it rain not in the days of their prophecy: and have power over waters to turn them to blood, and to smite the earth with all plagues, as often as they will. And when they shall have finished their testimony, the beast that ascendeth out of the bottomless pit shall make war against them, and shall overcome them, and kill them. And their dead bodies shall lie in the street of the great city, which spiritually is called Sodom(the flesh or the lust of the flesh) and Egypt(the world or the lust of the eyes), where also our Lord was crucified (the devil or the pride of life). (All describing Jerusalem) And they of the people and kindreds and tongues and nations shall see their dead bodies three days and a half, and shall not suffer(allow) their dead bodies to be put in graves. And they that dwell upon the earth shall rejoice over them, and make merry, and shall send gifts one to another; because these two witnesses tormented them that dwelt on the earth. And after three days and an half the Spirit of life from God entered into them, and they stood upon their feet; and great fear fell upon them that say them. And they heard a great voice from heaven saying unto them, Come up hither(to here). And they ascended up to heaven in a cloud; and their enemies beheld them. And the same hour was there a great earthquake, and the tenth part of the city fell, and in the earthquake were slain of men seven thousand: and the remnant were affrighted(afraid) and gave glory to the God of heaven. Revelation 11:1-13

Elijah Previously Offers a Contest With the Prophets of Baal to Determine Whose God is theReal and Living God from 1 Kings 18

When Elijah met Ahab King of Israel, King Ahab addressed Elijah as he that troubled Israel. Elijah rightly replied that it was Ahab who was troubling Israel because Ahab and his house or kingly dynasty had forsaken the commandments of the Lord and followed Baal. Elijah then issued a challenge to Ahab to bring 450 prophets of Baal who were homosexuals or male prostitutes and 400 prophets of the groves or Ashtoreth representing the female fertility goddess and were probably loose with women. These prophets were to join Elijah in a contest to each offer a sacrifice to their God (god) and call on their God (god) to bring down fire from heaven to consume the sacrifice and show who is the true and living God. King Ahab and the prophets of Baal (and the prophets of Ashtoreth (the groves) agreed to this invitation and that it was well spoken or fair and reasonable. The scripture portion in 1 Kings 18 of Elijah's invitation of the prophets of Baal to this competition to show who is the true and living God the God of the Bible (the LORD, Jehovah or Yahweh) or Baal is as follows:

Scripture Reference from 1 Kings 18 of Elijah's Challenge to the Prophets of Baal to a Competition to Show Whose God is the True and Living God

And it came to pass, when Ahab saw Elijah, that Ahab said unto him, Art thou he that troubleth Israel? And he answered, I have not troubled Israel; but thou, and thy father's house, in that ye have forsaken the commandments of the LORD, and thou hast followed Baalim. Now therefore send, and gather to me all Israel unto mount Carmel, and the prophets of Baal four hundred and fifty, and the prophets of the groves four hundred, which eat at Jezebel's table. So Ahab sent unto all the children of Israel, and gathered the prophets together unto Mount Carmel. And Elijah came unto all the people, and said, How long halt ye between two opinions? if the LORD be God, follow him: but if Baal, then follow him. And the people answered him not a word. Then said Elijah unto the people, I, even I only, remain a prophet of the LORD; but Baal's prophets are four hundred and fifty men. Let them therefore give us two bullocks; and let them choose one bullock for themselves, and cut it in pieces, and lay it on wood, and put fire under: and I will dress the other bullock, and lay it on wood, and put no fire under: And call ye on the name of your gods, and I will call on the name of the LORD: and the God that answereth by fire, let him be God. And all the people answered and said, It is well spoken. I Kings 18:17-24

Competition of Elijah and the Prophets of Baal to Determine Whose God Answers by Fire on the Sacrifice and is the True and Living God from 1 Kings 18

First Elijah instructed the prophets of Baal to prepare their sacrifice with no fire under it and call on their god Baal to consume their sacrifice to him by fire from heaven. They did this and called on Baal from morning to the time of evening sacrifice from 3 to 5 PM with no reply or result despite their getting quite desperate and even mutilating themselves to try to get a response from Baal and despite Elijah taunting them and Baal. Then Elijah repaired the altar of the LORD that was broken down because of indifference or wilful destruction of it by the Israelites representing their disregard of the LORD and his commandments. Elijah showed this contest was representing all the tribes of Israel and the God of all the tribes of Israel by having twelve stones around the sacrifice. Elijah also showed that he was going to show his faith in God and God's power by even putting water on the wood and sacrifice so it would have to be God's power that could still send powerful enough fire to consume his sacrifice to God. Elijah was careful to ask God that he send the fire for God's glory but also that the LORD was the only true God and rightful God of Israel and to turn the hearts of the people of Israel back to him and to show that Elijah was the servant of the one true and living God. This sacrifice was offered at the time of the evening sacrifice which was also when the Lord Jesus Christ was offered on Calvary many years later. Then God sent fire from heaven and it consumed the sacrifice and the wood and even the stones and dust and touched the water. The people of Israel then rightly acknowledged that the LORD is the true God and to have the prophets of Baal all killed which was done. The scripture reference in 1 Kings 18 of this competition of Elijah and the LORD and the prophets of Baal and Baal to show who is the true and living God is as follows:

Scripture Reference from 1 Kings 18 of Competition Between Elijah, the Prophet of the LORD and the Prophets of Baal to Determine Which God is the True and Living God and Answers With Fire From Heaven

And Elijah said unto the prophets of Baal, Choose you one bullock for yourselves, and dress (prepare) it first; for ye are many; and call on the name of your gods, but put no fire under. And they took the bullock which was given them, and they dressed it, and called on the name of Baal from morning even until noon, saying, O Baal, hear us. But there was no voice, nor any that answered. And they leaped upon the altar which was made. And it came to pass at noon, that Elijah mocked them, and said, Cry aloud: for he is a god; either he is talking, or he is pursuing, or he is in a journey, or peradventure (perhaps) he sleepeth, and must be awaked. And they cried aloud, and cut themselves after their manner with knives and lancets, till the blood gushed out upon them. And it came to pass, when midday was past, and they prophesied until the time of the offering of the evening sacrifice, that there was neither voice, nor any to answer, nor any that regarded. And Elijah said unto all the people, Come near unto me. And all the people came near unto him. And he repaired the altar of the LORD that was broken down. And Elijah took twelve stones, according to the number of the tribes of the sons of Jacob, unto whom the word of the LORD came, saying, Israel shall be thy name: And with the stones he built an altar in the name of the LORD: and he made a trench about the altar, as great as would contain two measures of seed. And he put the wood in order, and cut the bullock in pieces, and laid him on the wood, and said, Fill four barrels with water, and pour it on the burnt sacrifice, and on the wood. And he said, Do it the second time, And they did it the second time. And he said, Do it the third time. And they did it the third time. And the water ran round about the altar; and he filled the trench also with water. And it came to pass at the time of the offering of the evening sacrifice, that Elijah the prophet came near, and said, LORD God of Abraham, Isaac, and of Israel, let it be known this day that thou art God in Israel, and that I am thy servant, and that I have done all these things at thy word. Hear me, O LORD, hear me, that this people may know that thou art the LORD God, and that thou hast turned their heart back. Then the fire of the LORD fell, and consumed the burnt sacrifice, and the wood, and the stones, and the dust, and licked up the water that was in the trench. And when all the people saw it, they fell on their faces: and they said, The LORD, he is the God, he is the God. And Elijah said unto them, Take the prophets of Baal; let not one of them escape. And they took them: and Elijah brought them down to the brook Kishon, and slew them there. And Elijah said unto Ahab, Get thee up, eat and drink; for there is a sound of abundance of rain. 1 Kings 18:25-41

Prophets of Baal Identified With Homosexuality in Jeremiah 23

Although it was much later than the time of Elijah, it was most likely also the case then as in the time of Elijah that the prophets of Baal were homosexuals and enouraged other people to practice homosexuality. The scripture reference in Jeremiah 23 of homosexuality being associated with the prophets of Baal is as follows:

Scripture Reference from Jeremiah 23 of Homosexuality Associated With the Prophets of Baal

And I have seen folly in the prophets of Samaria; they prophesied in Baal, and caused my people Israel to err. I have seen also in the prophets of Jerusalem an horrible thing: they commit adultery, and walk in lies: they strengthen also the hands of evildoers, that none doth return from his wickedness: they are all of them unto me as Sodom, and the inhabitants thereof as Gomorrah. Jeremiah 23:13-14

Identity of Two Witnesses Associated With Sodom or Prophets of Baal Against Elijah and Egypt Against Moses in Revelation 11

The beast out of the bottomless pit, the Antichrist, will kill the two witnesses half way through the tribulation partly because of his anger against Elijah's preaching against the flesh including Sodomy or Homosexuality as he did before with the prophets of Baal and with Moses against the world as he did against Egypt before. Altlhough it might be ambiguous what city is meant from the first part of the description the identity of it as where also our Lord was crucified clearly links it to Jerusalem. Just this year there was what I think was the first Gay (or Homosexual or Sodomite) Pride Day March in Jerusalem that proceeded with much controversy and opposition from conservative Jews, Muslims and Christians although it was supported by liberal especially secular Jews and Palestinians and other Arabs or other liberal people in Jerusalem or Israel. This is starting to identify Jerusalem as Sodom spiritually as it was also when some of the ungodly kings of Israel let Baal worship have a free reign previously. The secular or liberal Jews or Arabs would also correspond to Jerusalem being called Egypt which is a symbol of this ungodly world system in the Bible. Where also our Lord was crucified could be a reference more to the religious Jews such as Pharisees and scribes that didn't believe in Jesus and put him to death in the 1st century and are now represented by the Orthodox and Ultra-Orthodox Jews. The Jews and the people of the nations will see the bodies of these two witnesses, probably Moses and Elijah, in the streets of Jerusalem three and half days and won't allow them to be buried which is a great indignity for Jews. This will be done especially because the world including Jerusalem will then be very ungodly including being caught up with the New World Order then about to come under the full rule of the Antichrist or Beast out of the Sea and the homosexual or gay or sodomite agenda or movement that even this year, 2005, has begun to infect Jerusalem in a much greater way. The people of the earth, especially liberal people or perhaps some anti-Christian religious people will rejoice and even exchange gifts to celebrate the death of the two witnesses because the people of the earth will then feel these two witnesses tormented them not just with their plagues that they will have done but also in their preaching against worldliness especially the New World Order. Just look at that phrase on the back of a U.S. $1 bill under the image of the great pyramid of Giza in Egypt. Then after the three and a half days the Holy Spirit will possess and raise the bodies of the two witnesses and take them to heaven which will also be a reminder to Jews and people of the nations of the resurrection of the Lord Jesus Christ from Jerusalem. This was after Jesus was put to death also partly because of His miracles and preaching although in his case in a more gracious way than will be the case for the two witnesses. The enemies of the two witnesses, the world Jews and Gentiles and Jews and Gentiles still indulging in the lust of the flesh including homosexuality who resented the ministry of the two witnesses, Moses and Elijah, will witness a voice from heaven inviting the two witnesses to come up to heaven and their then being caught up to heaven before the eyewitness of their enemies especially in Jerusalem. The scripture passage in Revelation 11 of part of the ministry, death, and raising and catching up to heaven of the two witnesses and the reaction of the people of Jerusalem and the world is as follows:

Scripture Passage from Revelation 11 of the Ministry, Death and Raising to Heaven of the Two Witnesses, Moses and Elijah, in the First Half of the Tribulation and the Reaction of Unbelievers

And when they shall have finished their testimony, the beast that ascendeth out of the bottomless pit shall make war against them, and shall overcome them, and kill them. And their dead bodies shall lie in the street of the great city, which spiritually is called Sodom and Egypt, where also our Lord was crucified. And they of the people and kindreds and tongues and nations shall see their dead bodies three days and an half, and shall not suffer (allow) their dead bodies to be put in graves. And they that dwell upon the earth shall rejoice over them, and make merry, and shall send gifts one to another; because these two prophets tormented them that dwelt on the earth. And after three days and an half the Spirit of life from God entered into them, and they stood upon their feet; and great fear fell upon them which saw them. And they heard a great voice from heaven saying unto them, Come up hither (here). And they ascended up to heaven in a cloud; and their enemies beheld them. Revelation 11:7-12
